Scores of people are getting released from their employment, suffering pay cuts, losing hours and working harder for less money. Now, because it’s difficult to find comparable employment with similar benefits, we have to be more creative to bring money into the house. For some, it’s a do or die situation. The belt has been tightened so much that there is no room left to punch new holes. Some have been looking for work over a year, even two. Businesses are no longer loyal to their employees. The bottom line is more important. The stakeholders have to be taken care of first and foremost it seems; profits over people. Even our congressional leaders aren’t interested in taking care of the people; obeying their corporate donors is paramount. No election money, no job.
Some of us are now realizing we don’t want to grind anymore; we want to get out of the rat race. We are tired of dealing with the stressors of never-pleased bosses, uncooperative co-workers, scheduling demands and minimal pay for the considerable amount of work we do, and the threat of being laid off. No longer content with living to work, rather wanting to enjoy life while working; some of us are looking for better. So, what is a man to do? We must find other sources of income.
Is it a good time to launch a new venture? It doesn’t seem so, however, during the depression many new business were started. Some turned their hobbies into money-making enterprises. Most of us don’t have the capital to do so. We don’t have a trust fund; our 401(k) has diminished into a 101(k); rich uncles to generously contribute don’t exist; and parents no longer can take the equity out of their homes to provide the seeds. Heck, not many homeowners have equity they can tap into; credit is tight and the banks are hoarding.
God placed in each of us a purpose, along with a passion to carry it out. But how do we parlay that zeal into a viable business? We have to ask, seek, knock, and walk through the open door. (Matthew 7:7) Will your purpose bring in the finances to stabilize your family? I certainly believe that what God has imparted in us, he will provide the means for it to be achieved. It may not immediately bring in big bucks, but in His timing, sustenance will come. Matthew 6:26-27 says, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable that they?”
What if…what if what you really enjoy doing could bring more money into your home.
You will not know unless you try.
That passion, that thing that gets us heart-racing excited will help to sustain and encourage us because we know that God is with us; even when times are rough and it doesn’t seem like money is forthcoming. My Pastor, Jill Cloud, encouraged me on Sunday to keep moving forward. As long as I am in His will for my life, God will work it out. Discouragement will not be in my vocabulary. I am confident that I’m operating in my purpose with passion. Patience will sit right beside me until I see the fruit of my work.
It’s now time to take the leap of faith. What is there to lose when you don’t have a job? Why not invest in something you are passionate about. What idea have you been sitting on because you fear failing? What idea do you have that is needed and hasn’t been done yet? Whose report do you believe? What say you?
